31 items (showing items 1–20)

Panama / Colombia 1865 Estado Soberano de Panama Uncut Sheet Photo. Panama, 1865. Photograph of an uncut sheet of Paper Money, Colombia / Estado Soberano de Panama, ca 1865, 1-2-3-10 Pesos, Unsigned.  Dr.Edward Majilton owned the sheet shown in this photograph, which he furnished me in 1967.  He sold his sheet at auction in the mid-1970's, I do not know who is the current  owner.   I note that StacksBowers Auction August 16, 2011, lot #20092, sold a similar sheet, but signed and dated Aug 24, 1872.  That sheet sold for $26,550.  Dr. Majilton told me over 40 years ago that he was aware of a 2nd sheet.  However, I do not know, if it is the same one in the StacksBowers auction or yet another sheet.  At some point in the future I will include listings of individual notes 1, 2, 3, 10 pesos that are in my collection.

Provenance:

  • Dr. Edward Majilton; 1967 Photo

Panama / Colombia 20 Pesos 1870's Banknote, Photo. Panama / Colombia, 1870's. Photo of 20 Pesos ca 1870's El Banco de Panama banknote, serial number 0212.  If I recall correctly Dr Edward Majilton gave me the photo of the bank note in his collection, which was sold off in the mid-1970's.  However, I am researching my letter archives to confirm.  Given the rarity I decided to include the photo here.  Also, at some point in the future I will list here the 1, 5, 10, and 20 Pesos notes that are in my collection.

Provenance:

  • Dr. Edward Majilton, ca 1970 photo

Facsimiles, 1941 1B, 5B, 10B, 20B Specimen Notes. Panama, 1941. This is a set of reproductions of the 1941 Specimen set.  The notes were reproduced on both obverse & reverse sides, then placed together and sealed in individual plastic holders.  The white round marks are where the orignal notes would have had holes, but the person that reproduced the notes did not punch the holes out so they appear white.  Sets of these appeared on Ebay in 2004, properly advertised as fasimiles.  As I recall a few sets were offered for sale.  A curiosity set to illustrate the rare originals.   To see the reverse sides of the notes just click onto either of the photos, and additional photos come up.

Fantasy Issue. Panama, ca 1990's to 2000's. The note is 66 cm high x 155 cm long (aporox 2 5/8" x 6 1/16".  The obverse shows both side of a circulated Panama 1/4B coin.  Above is Republic of Panama with Cinco Balboas in center and Specimen below.  The number 5 is at each corner and Cinco at the left and right.  The reverse shows the Panama Coat of Arms in the center with Republica De Panama above and Cinco Balboas below.  The word Specimen across at an angle.  There are two large 5's and eight smaller 5's.  The printing is not clear, fuzzy.  The person who sold me this note stated:  It was simply an essay (printers) proof specimen that was never released to the public.  Presented for consideration just before the overthrow of the dictator Noriega, and were never considered for currency/printing.   The seller indicated the note had been owned for at least 6 years before being sold to me in 2009.  Based on the poor quality of the printing, poor image of a well worn coin being shown, this note more likely (my opinion)  is just someone's imagination of a possible banknote, and not any note anticipated being presented for printing.

Fantasy Issue. Panama, ca 1990's to 2000's. Reverse similar to the the other 5B fantasy note listed above, same size, comments.  The obverse shows a Panama 20B 1974 coin with Specimen across at an angle.  Panama is above and various signatures below.  Serial number 08787773. Seroe IE.  Novembe 22, de 1983.  Number 5 at the four corners and to both sides of the coin.  The words 5 Balboas in upper left and right. .

Fantasy Issue. Panama, 2010. Operation Just Cause, Invasion Of Panama 1989.  Size approx 2 5/8" x 6 1/16".  This is a fantasy note, made as a souvenir by TJ6 Enterprises in 2010.  The obverse shows LTC Robert Wagner in the center.  To his left is President George H. W. Bush, and to the right Vice President Dan Quayle.  The reverse shows a group of American soldiers with The United States Of America above and Operation Just Cause below.  The denomination is listed as One Million.  The serial number is I1989OJCP, which of course is the same on all notes printed.  The publisher of this interesting souvenir note offered this on Ebay in quantities from single notes to packages of 500 pieces.  I suspect the number printed, which was in May 2010, is based on the number of orders he received or estimated. .
