25 c 1904 Stamped Panama Canal 1907. Panama, 1907. Panama 25c 1904 KM #4 that has had part of the reverse shaved or planed down removing the words:  Veinticinco Centesimos De Balboa G.12.500 Ley 0.900.  The center of the coins was left, which is the Panama Coat of Arms.  Around the shaved area is stamped Panama Canal 1907.  The Rulau book on Latin American Tokens lists a somewhat similar piece, catalog # CZ 79.  However, that piece has the entire reverse planed off with the word Panama at the top and Canal at the bottom with 1907 in the area where the Coat of Arms had been.  The reason for the counterstamp is presently unknown, possibly a souvenir of some event that was important in Panama or the Canal Zone in 1907.  Size is just under 30 mm and weight 12.13 grams.  Over the years I have seen 4 or 5 pieces.

Panama 25c 1904 C/S Nov 14th 1910 (Visit of President Taft). A Panama 25c 1904 that has been stamped on the reverse side.  To the right of the Coat Of Arms is Nov.14th, and to the left 1910.  Research indicates that President Taft visited the Canal Zone on that date.  Probably sold as a souvenir of that event.  Click onto the reverse side photo and you can enlarge the image to see the counterstamp easier.  This is the only specimen I have observed in the past 45+ years of collecting Panama,  but being a souvenir, others may exist.

50c 1905 Stamped I9 / 4I / J.B.H.. Panama, 1905. Panama 50c 1905 KM #5 counter stamped I9 to the left of Balboa, and 4I to the right.  Above the date at the base of Balboa are the initials J.B.H.  At first glance it appears to be the date 19 / 41, but the 1 is clearly the initial I, perhaps the number 1 was not available ?  Likely a hand made souvenir of someone that either visited Panama or the Canal Zone in 1941 or perhaps of a military person stationed in the Canal Zone ?   The size is 36 mm and weight 24.76 grams.  Condition is Very Good to Fine.

1B 1953 Masonic Symbols, Cut Out. Panama, 1953. Panama 1B 1953 coin which has been cut out to illustrate Masonic symbols, and also engraved.  Based on the wear and how the cut out was done, I believe this to be an older cut out from years ago and not a recent cut out using lazers.  KM catalog for the regular issue coin is KM #21.  The coin is  .900 fine silver.  A regular coin weighs 26.73 grams, and this particular coin is 18.87 grams.

1B (1953) Gamboa Golf Club Life Membership. Panama, 1953. 1B size coin that has been planed down completely on both sides.  This is a silver coin, possibly a Panama 1B coin.  The coin is engraved on both sides.  One side reads Panama Canal Zone at the top and below Balboa Gold Club Life Membership.  The other side reads Mr. Mrs. C. M. Banan Charter Members 1937 - 1953.  There is a loop attached at the top.  The year 1953 was the 50th Anniversary of the Republic of Panama, so perhaps that is the reason for celebrating 16 years of membership in the club ?   The size is just under 38 mm, and 44 at the loop, and weight 19.77 grams.  The KM catalog lists the silver 1B coins as weighing 26.73 grams, so this souvenir planed down is probably right weight wise.  The edge is grained like a coin.

Fob - Souvenir Of Panama Canal. Panama, ca 1970's. Fob, in shape of a shield, slotted at top.  Engraving appears to be made by hand, rather then a production stamp.  Undated, but appears to be newer rather then an older vintage fob.  Uncertain, but perhaps 1970's, but that is speculation.  Reads Souvenir Of Panam Canal.  Back side is blank.  Appears to be a nickel type metal.  Due to reflection, the photo appears darker.  Size varies but at widest 40 mm and 41 mm tall, weight 9.26 grams.   Since this appears to be individually made, I am listing in the misc exonumia category rather then in the medal category.

Panama Charms ca. 1920's. Panama, ca 1920's. Group of 5 charms all the same.  The Panama Coat of Arms is shown with the word Panama below.  I note there are 7 stars above the Eagle.  Panama coins before 1930 have 7 stars, and starting in 1930 have 9 stars.  This may date the charms to pre-1930 ?   Looped for suspension.  White metal, weight of the five in grams is: 1.46, 1.45, 1.51, 1.48, and 1.43.  Size is about 14.5 mm across and 16.5 to 17 mm high.  With the loop 19 mm.

Panama counterstamped coins 1935 & 1938 + Lincoln cents. Panama, 1909 thru 1938. Counterstamped Panama coins dated 1935 and 1938 are know with one of 4 different counterstamps on the obverse side.  Also, U.S. Cents dates 1909 thru 1938 are know with similar counterstamps.  An article appeared in the Dec 13, 1977 issue of World Coin News, authored by Daniel K.E. Ching.  He was kind enought to send a photograph of 4 coins showing the 4 different counterstamps found on the Panama and U.S. Coins.  He raised questions as to who produced the counterstamps, the purpose, etc.  Also illustrated in his article are a number of examples.   Please note that if you click onto either photo it will also bring up the rest of the article.  At some point in the future I will also list 2 or 3 of these counterstamped coins that are in my collection.

1967 Anguilla Liberty Dollar C/S on Panama 1B 1947. Anguilla, 1967. A Panama 1947 1B coin that has been counterstamped Anguilla Liberty Dollar / July 11  1967.  The Balboa side of the coin is counterstamped Anguilla / July 11 1967 / Liberty Dollar.  The reverse of the coin is not counterstamped, but both sides show flattened somewhat from the effects of the force used to counterstamp.   Listed in Krause Mishler with a mintage of 91 pieces using  Panama 1B coins used from 1931, 1934, 1947 and 1953.  Also, A number of other countries coinage was also counterstamped some unique to others in the thousands issued.  The Provisional Government of Anguilla declared independence and seceded from the Federation.  However, no countries recognized them.  Eventually, Anguilla was established as  a self-governing British dependent territory.  There is no evidence that the issues of the self-proclaimed Provisional Government every actually cireculated.  The c/s may have been sold as souveirs of the revolution.  Additional information:  I have re-discovered an article from Numismatic News dated August 28, 1967 and include that as an additonal photo, which comes up by clicking onto either of the coin photos.  This articles gives additional information on the coins including possibly circulating in Anguilla.

1962 Panama Canal Company ID Tag, Lock Division. Panama, 1962. A photo ID for an employee of the Panama Canal Company.  The picture side shows a small photo of the employee with his id number and name listed on the bottom of the photo:  3532 R. Danielsen.  The ID badge is sealed plastic over the photo and id area.  The ID is shaped like a shield or badge outline, holed at the top as made, with a brass ring/rivet.  The paper area reads Panama / Canal Company / Canal Zone at the top and Lock / Division at the bottom.  The photo area is faded and the plastic crackled in areas over the photo.  The back side reads Panam Canal Copmany / Balboa Heights / C.Z.   In the center Not Transferable / U.S. Government Property.  At the bottom If found drop in nearest Post Office / Postmaster will forward to / Personnel Bureau / 444 / Re. 3-62.  That likely refers to the date this style of ID badge was issued:  March 1962.   The size varies due to shape, but generally 2" x 2.75". .

Cobsulado Gral. De Panama plaque. Panama, Date unknown, probably post 1930. Brass plaque Consulado General De Panama, measuring about 7 2/5" across x 7 1/2" tall.  Shows the Panama Coat Of Arms.  Around the Arms reads Consulado Gral. De Panama.  The brass has been painted black, red, white, and 2 shades of blue in areas.  The prior owner indicated this had been mounted to a building no longer in use.  The back side in the center has what appears to be a ground down mounting screw that would have secured the plaque to a building or wall.  An unusual item.
