Using the Search Function
NeoCollect's search function provides an easy way to locate public content created by NeoCollect users. Whatever you're looking for, simply type your terms into the search box and click Search.
Above the search field, you'll see a drop-down chooser that defaults to "All of NeoCollect". This drop-down lets you narrow your search based the type of content you're looking for, so if you're looking for a user named Washington you won't also see items depicting George Washington.
Searching for Phrases
Normally, NeoCollect's search engine returns any results that contain all of your search keywords. So if you search for items matching washington university, you'll see any items that contain both the word washington and the word university, even when those words appear separately, such as an item titled "University of Virginia, Washington Society."
In order to match only items that contain the phrase washington university, you can use double quotes around the phrase. Therefore, an item search for "washington university" will include an item titled "Washington University of Baltimore" but may not match one titled "University of Virginia, Washington Society.".
To eliminate results containing a certain term (or quoted phrase) from your search results, simply include that term in your search query, preceded by a minus sign. For example, an item search for washington -george will match items that include the word washington but do not use the president's first name.
Normally, a search must match all terms provided in your query. If you use the | symbol — a vertical bar, your results will include anything that matches terms on the the left-hand-side or the right-hand-side of that symbol. For example, while the search washington lincoln matches only items that include both names, a search for washington | lincoln matches items that include either name.
