Privacy & Sharing
An explanation of the many layers of privacy protection and security that are built into NeoCollect, and how you can share your collections and connect with other collectors safely and, if you wish, anonymously. As you saw in the Overview
video, NeoCollect helps you manage and showcase your collections, connect
with other serious collectors and share your expertise. This video describes the many
layers of privacy protection and security that are built into NeoCollect,
and explains how you and others can share your collections and connect
with other collectors safely and – if you choose – anonymously. When you sign up for NeoCollect,
you are asked to enter a unique user name that will become the way you
and your collections are known to others on NeoCollect. This user
name may have no reference to your real name. While we do also
ask for your real name and e-mail address for internal purposes, these
are never automatically revealed to others. No one will know who
you are or your e-mail address unless you tell them explicitly or ask
us to share it with them. NeoCollect has an extensive
privacy policy. As you can see, we are very sensitive to the privacy
needs of our users, and recognize the importance of protecting the personally
identifiable information that you choose to share with us. Anytime you create a new collection
within NeoCollect it is initially and automatically set up as private.
This means the collection will be viewable only by you. You never
have to share any of your NeoCollect collections with anyone.
You can make any or all of your collections public at any time, simply
by going to each collection’s settings page and clicking the Public
button. As you build your collection
hierarchy, you can manage these privacy settings so that some of your
collections are public and some remain private. Similarly, all of the items
you enter into NeoCollect are also initially and automatically set up
as private and viewable only by you. You can change an individual
item to be public or private at any time, simply by going to the item’s
editing form, selecting your desired setting, and saving. Every item in your NeoCollect
collections, even those that are marked private, can be shared with
others by clicking on the Share Item button. Just enter the email
addresses for the intended recipients, customize the message, and click
the Send button, right below the message box. The recipients of
this message will be sent an email with a link to the item you want
to share, but this link is setup to operate so that the recipients you
designate may not forward your private items on to others. You can also share a collection
in the same way. When you develop slide shows
or catalogues, which are generally intended to be shared, you can share
these, too, as more fully explained by the videos on Creating a Slideshow
and Creating a Shared Catalogue. As described in those
videos, the slideshows and catalogues you develop are kept private until
you are ready to mark them public and begin sharing them with specific
individuals, or allow them to be featured on the NeoCollect home page
or community pages. If you are a member of a community,
you can link some or all of your collections to that community.
From the community’s home page, click on Your Settings, then check
off the collections that are relevant to the community and click Save. Your linked collections, if
they are marked Public, will be available for other community viewers
to see under the Collections tab. Additionally, any public items
from those collections that are marked “Wanted to Buy” or “For
Sale or Trade” will appear automatically under the community’s Classifieds
page. You can learn more about our community features by watching
the Joining NeoCollect Communities video. This NeoCollect pilot website
is currently set up for medals only, but we will soon be adding templates
for tokens, ancient coins, and eventually for a broad spectrum of fine
art, antiques and other valuable collectibles. Please watch the other NeoCollect
videos. And, of course, please e-mail
or call us if you need help or more information. NeoCollect Videos
