Silver. 110mm × 88mm. A magnificently hand-engraved and massive (filling the outstretched hand) silver English medal awarded in 1840 to an officer of the Managers and Overlookers Society for his work in the society and for his success in the "Cotton Trade". The  medal obv and rev has numerous old English hallmarks  and depicts in minute detail the workings of a textile processing machine. I don't usually buy or collect "foreign" medals but John Sallay, sensing my taste,  brought this medal to my attention on a Massachusetts antique shop website and I made a counteroffer which was accepted. It took my breath away when it arrived. Good decision.
