Probably New York, 1857. Gold, hand engraved. Diameter 47.5mm, 24.3 grams, with ring for suspension. Obverse: A hand holding a balance scale, which shows a feather pen in the lower right pan outweighing a sword in the upper left pan. Reverse: AWARDED BY EDS YALE LIT MAG. (above and around) TO AUGUSTUS HOPKINS STRONG "Qui palmain (sic, should be palmam) meruit ferat." (Let he who merits the palm carry it) CLASS OF 1857 (below). Bright-cut edge. Proof-like.
