Brazil / Empire. D. Pedro I, 1822-1831. 960 réis, 1823-R. Rio de Janeiro. Levy 26.112. Amato 504C. KM 368.1. Lupercio 3A (big crosslets, 30 tulips, scarce). Silver, on Peru 8 reales 1821JP, Lima mint, Ferdinand VII. Diameter 39.5mm, 26.52 grams. Obverse: denomination in centre with large flowers at the bottom and top, smaller flowers on the left, right, and diagonals, all surrounded by an interlocking circular wreath of tulips. External cirlular inscription "PETRUS.I.D.G.CONST.IMP.PERP.BRAS.DEF.; date and mintmark at bottom. Reverse: Brazilian national coat of arms with branches of coffee to the left and tobacco leaves to the right. Along the upper edge; legend "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES". NGC MS-63. Beautiful strike with prooflike areas on obverse, host fully attributable.
