Safavids. Shah Isma‘il I, AH 907-930 / AD 1501-1524. Shahi, not dated. Hisan (Khayzan). Album 2576. Zeno 59933. Silver. Diameter 21.5mm, 2mm thick, 9.21 grams. Obverse: Top line: (al-sultan) el-'adil el-hadi abul'; Central cartouche: (al-wali) muzaffar shah isma'il bahadur (khan?); Bottom line: (es-safawi?) khallad Allah (mulkahu wa sultanahu?). Reverse: Centre: zarb Khayzan. Central square formed by 4 'Ali, the other 8 Imams in the margins, starting at top: ja'far musi / muhammad hasan / muhammad hasan / muhammad hussein. GVF. Lovely strike. Hizan, near lake Van in eastern Turkey, is a rare mint in eastern Anatolia, earlier called Khayzan.
