in Panama Metal ID Checks (currently in collection)
Panama, ca 1918 to 1919. The ID check is a brass, uniface, encased in a ring w/loop attached.  On the reverse side is a photo of the worker.  The medal side reads Employee in the center with The Panama Canal above and Canal Zone below.  The photo side shows a man with a hatched type background behind him and his ID number 1843.  Eugene Hamlin, Jr. Indicated that the ID check dates from July 1918 to December 31, 1919.  Listed by Hamlin as #Misc-5; by Plowman as CK-3.2; and Asociacion Numismatico as ID-11.  The size is 31 mm and with the loop at the top 34 mm overall.  The weight is 7.51 grams.  Over the years I have seen many of the medals offered for sale without the brass encasement or photo.  Apparently, coming apart from the original brass encasement.  By clicking onto the ID check a 3rd photo appears, which is the original auction envelope. .
