1702. Betts 101. Silver. Diameter 40.7mm, 29.6 grams. Obverse: Winged Victory crowning a trophy of arms and merchandise with a naval crown and branches of palm and laurel. Around are implements of war and barrels of treasure. Legend: SPES ET VIRES HOSTIUM FRACTAE. (The hope and forces of the enemy broken) Exergue: INCENSA GALLOR CLASSE. HISPAN. OPES AMERIC. INTERCEPT. (The French fleet being burnt, the American treasure of Spain intercepted). Reverse: Plan of Vigo harbour and forts, a fleet at the entrance (in perspective) setting ships on fire. Legend: ANGLORVM ET BATAVORVM VIRTVTE. (By the valour of the English and Dutch); Exergue: AD VIGOS PORTE. GALLICIAE. 1702. Edge inscribed DECIDIT IN CASSES PRAEDA PETITA MEOS .
