Panama, ca 1890. Obverse reads Juan Arias David on 3 line ribbon.  Juan Arias is the individual that issued the token.  David identifies the town in the province of Chiriqui.  The reverse reads Vale / 5 / Centavos.  A large hole in the center of the token was used to re-value the token.  The hole removes parts of the name on the obverse and on the reverse the 5 and most of the dots design that would surround the 5.  On this variety there are 2 stars used as stops on the reverse between Vale / Centavos.  The denicles on the obverse side are small, and on the reverse side are larger and long.  Plowman #PT-25.12, and dates the token t ca 1890.  Rulau # Chq 22.  Copper nickel, 24.5 mm, and weight 2.87 grams.
