According to Erlanger, prize medals are mentioned in the 'Schulordnung' (school regulations) of 1634 for the Johannis Gymnasium.   The word 'brabeon' implies victory in a contest, such as an examination, though at the Johannis-Schule in Hamburg, the 'brabeontes' were given to all students who got promoted each year.
